The argument in favor
A 28th Amendment Congressional adoptions of amendments to the Constitution come few and far between, although prove effective in bettering the welfare of the United States. The Law of the Land must change alongside America’s changing views. The next necessary amendment to the constitution should be a set outline for term limits for both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Currently, term limits do not exist among Congress, leading to possible corruption and political scheming, allowing the same state representative to stay in office until he/she resigns or passes away.…
When it comes to the idea of a president being in office for six years, many people say it is not long enough for a good president. Larry J. Sabato proposes a vote in the fifth year of a president’s term. This vote would decide whether or not to lengthen the president’s time in office to eight years. If the president wanted to stay in office longer, this vote would be held. If the majority of people said yes, he would gain two more years in office.…
“We honor our past because it shapes our future,” this is one of the many quotes that Otterbein University holds dearly. Otterbein University holds this value greatly. Otterbein gives equality to all students, faculty, and others since 1847. Before any women’s rights and the abolishment of slavery, Otterbein University allowed people of color and women to receive a fair and equal education. Otterbein University is a mid-sized college located in Westerville, Ohio.…
The 22nd amendment states that the president can only hold office up to eight years. George Washington is the one who establishes the policies of presidents not to serve more than two terms in office. I think this amendment important because the founders did not want a dictatorship. This amendment wouldn't allow that to happen they can only stay in office less than eight years. Every four years we vote for a new president or the existing president to stay in office for four more years.…
Members of the House already have to be re-elected every two years and members of the Senate have to be elected six years. (“How Congress Works”, 67) Therefore, it is unfair that a constituents vote must be casted on a candidate who falls between the eligible amount of terms. If a candidate gets re-elected therefore it is what the constituents want. This argument against the implementation of term limits in congress is flawed in many ways.…
The Obamacare Debacle: Another Reason We need a Second political party. Sometimes you simply hope that your predictions will be wrong and that events will miraculously turn out differently, unfortunately this is not one of those times. Most people with a modicum of common sense anticipated that the Republicans would now take the blame for the troubles of Obamacare, and that has come to pass. ……… ………….…
The situation turned from ideological to legislative. Term limits have been contested by many presidential nominees and also by Ronald Regan and it initiates the question about The Era to Come on Term Limits. Are the rash decisions made by presidents a product of having no ability to be re-elected? Would a reform help? What are the issues and how can they be solved?…
I’m not quite understanding of your comment. Are you saying that former Presidents Reagan and Clinton were as vocal against George Dukakis and George W. Bush as Obama is now being against Donald Trump and that there was justification in ’88 and ’00? I am fairly clear on the aforementioned campaigns and Ronald Reagan stayed out of the ’88 election much to the dismay of George Bush. And Bill Clinton, much to his credit, didn’t get involved with disparaging remarks about George W. Bush. What I object to is for a sitting President to be as negatively verbal as Obama and staff.…
Some proponents of term limits believe that political PACs would lose some of this power if term limits were imposed because it would disrupt the relationships between candidates and PACs by constantly rotating the politicians in power. However, the agencies that are sophisticated and eager to deploy their money in Washington and, as Sandra Day O’Connor wrote in the 2003 Supreme Court Case that upheld most of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, “Money, like water, will always find an outlet” In the short run, term limits can destroy the long standing relationships between Congressmen and special interest groups, and every decade or two, a new set of Congressmen will be eager for donations. But super PACs and interest groups will continue to funnel money into politics. Most proposals for term limits advocate for the chance to run for election at least once, so politicians will continue to welcome financial support for these campaigns; term limits would force interest groups to work harder to gain their influence with each new class of…
Although there are many proponents of Congressional term limits, there are also many opponents with just as many arguments. One such argument is that term limits filter individuals with absolutely no experience into Congress. Although new members may bring in diversity, they also lack experience and the skills that come along with it. In addition, opponents of term limits argue that the longer an individual holds office, the more aware of their constituents they become. This is because, in order to continue holding office, they need to appeal to the people and work for their…
The Benefits of Congressional Term Limits According to Lydia Saad three in four Americans would vote for Congress members to have limits on the amount of terms they can serve. noteDespite the information previously stated citizens of the United States have still neglected to put the concept of Congressional term limits at the federal level into effect, perhaps they have not yet realized the specific benefits that limits on terms in Congress would have on American politics. The issue of Congressional term limits is not rearing its head for the first time. In the 1990’s several states passed legislation to limit the terms of their state Congressmen.…
As a country founded on the ideals of freedom and liberty, the United States of America created a Constitution with democracy at its core. Although the Framers strenuously debated on how democratic the Constitution should be, the product of their efforts produced a document that has served as the basis for the democratic republic that America is today. However, some individuals, such as Robert Dahl, a political theorist and an author, illustrate the specific areas of the Constitution that have failed to promote its democratic quality. One of his most tenacious arguments lies with the dysfunctionality of the Electoral College, which he regards as a major contribution to the undemocratic character of the Constitution. He provides two distinctive…
Recently, there has been an argument in the State of Texas about the power of the State and the local governments. This argument had raised up after Gregg Abbott warned about the “Californization” of Texas, and in follow passing laws that limited the power of local governments on issues like fracking in their cities. These arguments are similar to those that are for the powers for the State versus Federal government. Hence, there are lots of arguments for and against the local control, and on the other hand, it is hypocritical for the state government to impose its will on the policies.…
Supporters of this amendment, however believe it prevents political stagnation. As times changed, allowing a new president to step in, the people felt they would see beneficial changes and a new perspective on political issues. To this day there are pros and cons to this controversial amendment. The pros of the amendment are a long term presidency would meet with the needs of the people.…
I think that the most convince argument was presented but a side that was arguing against the motion. All the numbers they presented and how they connected it with biology. Qualitatively, people don't think that dating apps are killing the romance. Pew Research surveyed 55 percent of people who don't use dating apps and they think that they're good. A lot of people who do use them - 80 percent - think that they're a good way to meet people.…
