TV VIOLENCE AND AGRESSION IN CHILDREN Imagine the shining LED TV in your sitting room as a guest. Your children spend a lot of time with this guest. This guest teaches your children to resolve conflicts through violence. The guest babysits your kids and teaches them principles you don’t agree with. Does watching violence in TV is harmful for your children? Yes, indeed. Ever since TV has been introduced into the homes, parents, teachers and psychologists have been wanting to know about the impact of TV on children. The report given by National institute of mental Health in 1982, states that viewing excessive violence in TV makes children less sensitive to others, more fearful of the world and behave in aggressive manner [1]. In fact, extensive viewing of television violence causes children to behave in aggressive or harmful ways to others. According to the reports published by University of Michigan, children aged 2-11 in America are watching more TV that ever [2]. Kids aged 2-5 now spend more than 32 hours a week on average in front of a TV screen[2a]. 71% of 8- to 18-year-olds have a TV in their bedroom. An average American child will see 200,000 violent acts and 16,000 murders on TV by age 18[2b]. if you happen to watch any of the cartoon shows for children, for example Tom and Jerry or Scooby doo, it is evident that there are violent acts in every minute.
