What is technology? Technology is the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, and methods to solve a problem and to achieve a goal. Technology rapidly advancing every day to create a more efficient human life. However, technology is advancing rapidly to the point where it is becoming too intelligent, unpredictable, and uncontrollable. Advancing technology has many benefits, but people are missing out on the risks it also brings. There are two main risks in advancing technology. The first risk is that the technology is programmed to be devastating. Technology is always increasing and the human race is always getting smarter. “Technology offers a continually, if unevenly, expanding domain of increasing human control and power in the world” (Allenby and Sarewitz). This quote summarizes the risk perfectly. With the more intelligent technological systems available, there are more dangerous risks implemented. One example of the risk is autonomous weapons. Autonomous weapons were created for protection without putting human lives in risk. The right person can control the power of unleashing the weapon for no good reason, however, what if a person or organization grabs hold of the dangerous autonomous weapon. It would cause a tragedy. Acoording to the New York Times, a report from a former Pentagon official who helped established the US policy on autonomous weapons argues that the weapons can be uncontrollable in real-world situations.
