What is an empowered student? An empowered student has a voice and actively uses his or her voice for the betterment of their lives. Empowered students are honest and just like teachers, they are heavily vested in their learning process. They participate in the lesson planning process and take ownership for their education. When taking ownership, the student can properly criticize their learning experience and suggest ways to improve it. In addition, an empowered student creates their own learning opportunities and assess themselves for self- improvement (Ripp 2015).
Furthermore, the Tech-Savvy leader will ensure that students are actively engaged in activities that integrate technology through learning strategies such as the Project Based Learning Model (PBL). In response to those demands by the EETT, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) developed the Long-Range Plan for Technology 2006-2020 (LRPT) to establish statewide goals, which are measured using the School Technology and Readiness (STaR) chart survey. The yearly survey, in which all Texas teachers participate, is used to assess technology integration in Texas public schools. The survey assesses four main areas: teaching and learning, educator preparation and development, leadership administration and instructional support, and infrastructure for technology. "Phil Schlecty (1994), says students who are engaged exhibit three characteristics: (1) they are attracted to their work, (2) they persist in their work despite challenges and obstacles, and (3) they take visible delight in accomplishing their work" (Strong, Silver, & Robinson, 1995). As I read Levin & Scrum's (2012) description of New Tech High School, I could see each of these characteristics being exhibited on their campus. Kennedy et al. (2006) (as cited in Papa, 2011) stated that schools are not prepared to educate a new generation of students who are well-versed in emerging technology, and this is incompatible with current teaching practices (p. 131). The New Tech High School in Napa Valley, utilized advanced technological and teaching…

Students’ education has changed over the years and the reason for it is technology. For hundreds of years teachers have used books, paper, and pencils to teach their students, but for the last few years technology has become part of everyone’s life in one way or another. Students and teachers are getting their technology through the classroom and it has impacted student learning. Technology has positively impacted student learning because they have more motivation, self-esteem, are completing complex tasks and help others more, while it has the negative impact of poor work and shorter attention span to tasks. One way is that technology has increased students’ motivation to learn and their self-esteem in what they learned.…

Interacting with these ICT resources, learners can learn things independently. In this context, the teacher should not consider students as an empty vessel that need to be filled with the words of wisdom coming from the teachers and course book but view herself as "a helper and instructional designer who leads learners to discover and create their own meanings about the world"(Wang, 2011 p. 276). Thus, teacher's role is also significant in teaching value based use of ICT in the…
