I worked closely with the Associate Provost to revise the academic program review process at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) to incorporate assessment reports and data in the review process. As Chair of the Liberal and Applied Arts College Council at SFA, I oversaw the college level approval of curricular changes. I also served as an active member of the Graduate Council, which is charged with approval of graduate curricular changes, and as an active member of the Undergraduate Council, which is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations concerning proposed changes in the undergraduate curriculum at SFA. I was also an active and highly involved member of the Long Range Planning Committee at Lamar University (LU). This committee developed plans for LU’s campus master plan, expansion of academic programs, and budget priorities. However, unlike Tenured/Tenured Track Faculty (T/TTF), NNTFs serve in unreliable, unsupported positions with little employment stability and assurances for academic freedom (American Academy of University Professors [AAUP], n.d). Nationwide, 70% of faculty members in higher education are employed off the tenure-track (Reevy & Deason, 2014). The NTT Faculty ranks vary, with the majority remaining in the instructor or lecturer category (Baldwin & Chronister, 1996).…

Laura Humphrey’s speech was inspiring. She was able to break down certain questions about student life and persuaded students to participate in organizations within the University of South Carolina at Lancaster. Despite showing a charming and persuasive persona, Mrs. Humphrey was able to enlighten everyone in the auditorium about student participation. However, although throwing important facts to the table for students, Laura’s presentation was rather lengthy and was not clearly described. After conducting an in-depth interview with successful college graduate, Tim Love, I have formed multiple connections from his college experience to ideas presented in past readings, lectures and discussions. Before explaining my findings, I think it is important to note that Tim is a thirty-three year-old married father of one daughter (soon-to-be two daughters) who works as a dean for Loyola University where he attended college and received a major in Italian. The first insight I formed was that Tim’s idea of success is fairly equivalent to that of a successful person as defined by this course’s instructors. Tim’s idea of success is being able to work hard at something, such as solving a problem, while being able to produce an unintentional…
