My name is Valerie Diaz and I grew up in a small town called Hazleton, Pennsylvania. While growing up I noticed that I did not have any special talents or interest in sports. I am an individual who is simply motivated by earning good grades and by the long-term outcomes of those good grades. That is why school has always been my number one priority, sport and talent. I attended Heights-Terrace Elementary Middle School and graduated from 8th grade with honors and awards from the community service club, and the year book club. I also won 1st place in the science fair and received a certification for assisting in peer counseling. My ongoing experience at Temple University has been one of the most rewarding choices I have ever taken because of all of the opportunities that I have been blessed with. The most meaningful one is being an Academic Coach for the Russell Conwell Learning Center. Mentoring freshmen and upper classman on how to succeed at Temple University has inspired me to strive only for the best. As young adults, they struggled to gain an education and neither finished college but with persistence they worked extremely hard to give me the opportunity to achieve in higher education. My mother is my role model because as a woman she not only showed me how to value hard work but how a woman is capable of being so resilient. She worked tirelessly at Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse where she spent over forty hours a week just to give me a better future. An opportunity in which I’m extremely proud to contribute to.
As I began on my journey to success people always asked me how I managed college classes while being in high school, or how I could go to college and take summer classes and still be able to maintain two jobs. My response is simple, I would rather be motivated like crazy than lazy because I always think back to my parent’s
