Our group topic on Broad Scale Changes in the community colleges allowed for some great questions prepared for Dr. Monty Sullivan. He is the fourth President of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS), who has a plethora of knowledge and experience in community colleges over the last two decades.

Dr. Sullivan suggest community colleges must build robust relationship and “must start with the end in mind”. This echoes Steven Covey “Begin with the End in Mind” which is based on the principle that all things are created twice; first the mental creation, proceeded by the physical creation (Covey, 1989, p. n.d.). Dr. Sullivan referenced ‘Louisiana 2020’ several times and stated that outcome of the process as a “bold plan” with six comprehensive goals. These goals are drivers of many decisions made by the college. According to the LCTCS 2020 (2016) “the success of the colleges is largely dependent upon the strength of their industry relationships. Today, businesses are making major investments in the form of equipment, financial support, internship opportunities, and professionals serving in advisory roles” (p.

After being praised for her contributions in diversifying the college’s faculty and staff, and improving its academic standing among other Texas community colleges. The news of her resignation came as a shock to the community of Waco. According to Lascell, significant effort is needed from the leaders in order to make it all work. He also stated that help from the outsiders of the college community would be a huge help to Grove City College (Lascell). A little help and support from others is sometimes all it takes to help you continue on the road to success, and I believe that is exactly what the Grove City College community has been doing ever since. “GCC vs. Bell sent GCC on a new, clearer road to independance. It hasn’t been an easy road, but it has led to a unique place in higher education, one that allows the college to maintain its historic commitment to academic independence, the free market, individual liberty, and Christian truth” (Grove City…

In the article “Two Years Are Better than Four”, Liz Addison opposes the interpretation of modern day community colleges. In today’s society, community colleges are underappreciated and lack the respect that they deserve; community colleges are deemed “easygoing” since they are easier to get into then a so-called “privileged” college or university. Addison examines the expectations, affordability, level of education, and the growth and development of community colleges in contradiction of a four-year college or University. In high school, if not told already, students are planted with a seed.…

Another opportunity that both universities have is partnering with outside local employers both in the private and nonprofit sectors. Today, the driving factor for many students to go to college is for students to be prepared to enter the workforce after their education is complete. Nichols paints the recruitment process as a frivolous experience meant to cater to a student’s every need. Nichols claims “Colleges now are marketed like multiyear vacation packages, rather a contract with an institution and its faculty for a course of educational study.” (72). This is unsound inductive reasoning on Nichols part. He does not offer sufficient evidence other than his own word or a few sporadic campus activities, very exclusive to the individual universities.…
