Stupid F-Ing Bird: Play Analysis

Improved Essays
Stupid F- - -ing Bird is a very interactive and well performed play, which emphasizes on the daily struggles of artists, family and other human relationships. I saw the play on March 5th, 2016 at the Roy Bowen Theater, located on the campus of the Ohio State University. The production of this performance was made possible by the courtesy of the department of theater at the Ohio State University. The play was directed by Maureen Ryan and produced by Lesley Ferris. The play’s setting was of the 21st century.
The costumes used in the performance were of modern times. Simple casual wears and other revealing sexual costumes were utilized. The costume designer Joshua Quinlan did a fabulous job in choosing the perfect costumes for the right scenes.

Her performance was really energizing, thrilling and very impressive. Her creative performance and actions in the play made me think of a nickname for her. I nick named her the “Iron Lady” because of her firm and outspoken character. She was also very successful in her endeavors due to her countless efforts of hard work. I did see her as very mean and grumpy woman when she first appeared of on stage. As the performance continued, I realized most of her actions were due to her past life experiences. Even though she was this tough successful woman, she had a soft side to her. As an old saying goes, “There is always two sides to a coin” and truly Emma had two sides to her character. She was a very loving mother even though she always criticized his son’s artistic work. I did resonate with Emma’s character as sometimes I try to be very firm and rigid with people in other to show them how serious I am about a …show more content…
The play brought up a variety of social issues. Some of the issues represented were gender roles in society, sexuality and the class system. The issue that really captured my eye and was most fascinating in the performance was the issue of the disparity between the class systems in the society. The play depicted how the affluent and successful individuals in the society thinks they are better off than others. Emma and her lover in the performance were both successful and had to review the works of other upcoming artists. As a beginning artist you would think you would be given more tips and directions on how to better your work and not to be treated in a harsh and disrespectful manner as Emma did. As a successful business woman, Emma demeaned people of lower status in the society and disregarded any of their bright ideas during discussions. This issue truly exists in the real world and bringing it up in the performance was another way for the audience to think and challenge themselves about this issue.
The performance was very interactive as the characters engaged the audience in a heart to heart conversation. The characters even turned to the audience for advice in their quest for true love. The performance however, did make use of a lot of profane language and was not suitable for younger audiences. I was not surprised by the profanity as the title of the play itself was profane. Overall, the play was very

Directed by Sergei Radchenko, the audience is left on the edge of their seat at every stage of the three act performance; from the curse set on The Sleeping Beauty to the moment she falls in love and gets married. The captivating story of the Sleeping Beauty (Princess Aurora) involves multiple elements that all add to the success of the performance in their own unique way, which create a wonderful work of art. This is precisely why Marius Petipa’s choroeogrphy is considered to be at the top of the spectrum when it comes to classical ballet. More specifically, these elements include Tchaikovsky’s musical talent which sets the tone for the performance, the vibrant costume design which draws the audience’s full attention, and finally the character development of Princess Aurora which sends her on an imaginative journey to eventually fall in love.…

Father Comes Home from the Wars, Suzan-Lori Parks Suzan-Lori Parks created a character that had the illusion of choice. She showed how Hero’s perception of having control of his destiny undid his relationships. The costumes of this production propelled this show into modern day and made commentary on how systemic racism may still be inhibiting the freedoms of African Americans. This play forces the audience to reconcile with the past sins, and then points out the ways society still discriminates against people of color.…

The Sweet Girl Graduate by Sarah Curzon focuses on this specific representation of gender where the heroine of the play is attempting to comply to societal norms by cross-dressing in order to receive a higher education. The heroine is obliging to the gender hierarchy that exists, and as a result, this portrays the heroine as someone who is attempting to break away from male dominance, while at the same time accepting it as women were expected to. The representation of gender roles in The Sweet Girl Graduate creates a contradictory perception of what women are meant to achieve in the play, and this is due to the portrayal of the heroine as a free individual; however, at the same time she is subjected to follow the status quo forced…

Intricate details on the scenery made the buildings feel authentic and inviting, grabbing my attention from the moment I walked in the theatre. The costuming was also fantastic, portraying the time period well and adding even more authenticity to the production. All of these individual aspects of a play production acted as an important role, but none of them caught my attention as much as the storyline. I was entwined in the story from the moment the stage lights came on, engulfing myself in the man-made atmosphere presented in front of me. The story went on to tell a tale of a greedy…

This play is one which has been adapted many times since its first performance in Vienna in 1913. From a musical version, to countless interpretations of the plot in movies and television shows, the story is one which is almost universally recognizable, if not necessarily in its original context. The aim of this production will be to stay true to the original play, while transferring it into a modern setting. This will highlight the many ways in which it is still thoroughly relevant to modern audiences, particularly in reference to the implicit points made about the treatment of women, and those who are perceived as being on the lower levels of society. While the play itself may seem somewhat dated, seeming to be rooted in social hierarchies…

Kiss I saw this performance on Friday night, my initial reaction was a lot of confusion. The first act of the play was the story of some friends in Syria with a love affair, at times funny and sometimes awkward. The female lead was in love with her best friend’s boyfriend, who was also her boyfriend’s best friend, and they had wanted to start a relationship of their own. However she was going to be proposed to, this conflict made the story very intriguing because I wanted to see who the girl would chose. She ended up saying yes to her boyfriend, which left the friend confused and distraught.…
