I found the use of dramatic lighting to play the largest role in the ghost scenes where inflicting fear was intended. In singular, flashing fluorescent colors of white and green gave great detail. The sound designer used simulated reality to portray realistic sounds in the play as man-made, and not technological. This made the play feel legitimate, and less like a performance, as if I was observing it in the real world. The set, however, was the most enticing of all the visual effects. Intricate details on the scenery made the buildings feel authentic and inviting, grabbing my attention from the moment I walked in the theatre. The costuming was also fantastic, portraying the time period well and adding even more authenticity to the production. All of these individual aspects of a play production acted as an important role, but none of them caught my attention as much as the storyline. The setting, lights, costuming, and actors worked cohesively to project a beautiful and whimsical adaption of Charles Dickens story. However, in my opinion, the most enjoyable aspect of my Friday night was the life lesson I grasped from sitting in the third row, investing myself in the storyline and the themes engraved deep in the script.
