Social Norm Research Paper

I picked the social norm that people take away their water bottle, popcorn corn boxes or boxes people use when eating food or snacks at any types of shows or sport events. I picked this social norm because many people believe that it is rude to not to take away their trashes after a show, and I agree with this belief. However, there are numbers of people who do not follow this social norm, we can simply see them after a certain event for example: after every University of Arizona football home game, there are thousands of water bottles, taco boxes left on the ground at the football stadium. I know this fact because after every football games I stay to clean up the stadium with the group of people. People may think they do not have to do this because some one will pick it up for them. It is true but it takes them hours to pick those thrashes up, if every individual throws their trash after an event, there won’t be this problem and other people would not have to spend many …show more content…
I also looked up the most of the seats to check if there are any soda bottles left, unfortunately, almost all people left their trash, and people did not seem to care about them. They showed no reaction to this matter as if it was just a typical norm for people to do. To be honest, I was surprised to see all the people’s reaction and their behavior. My reaction toward to this norm is definitely surprised, before I picked up this norm for my project, I had almost no idea of how people pollute the environment by simply not respecting the others work. Although, I was one of them who does not follow the norm, I obviously do not feel very good about the result because it shows that how lazy we have become that we do not carry our thrash to the door to throw. And I certainly hope that everyone feels the same about this issue as me and take an action starting from right

How Society Influences Just imagine all the amazing stuff you could find in other people’s trash. Dumpster Diving is something homeless people do when they want to find food, clothing, and anything else they could use to their advantage. Dumpster diving gave me a horrible impression. I couldn’t contribute to the idea of someone, much less myself, digging or scrounging in another’s dumpster out in the open, touching food and material that could easily lead to deadly diseases. At first, I saw dumpster diving as a disgusting and unsanitary activity, something no one should ever attempt.…

There are many laws out there that many people do not know about, therefore, are unintentionally breaking the law. While this may not seem like a huge deal, the amount of people breaking these laws is huge. People litter when they have trash, or jaywalk when the timing is convenient. Frank Trippett, in his article, “A Red Light for Scofflaws”, explains that millions of people break smaller laws everyday. Trippett is right, because the amount of people breaking the law is insane, and these laws were made for a reason.…

With people, comes trash, and this inevitability is what is causing New-Yorkers so much headache. Previously, trashcans were placed underground in the subway terminals. Though this seemed like it was the best option for the placement of the trashcans, they would often be overflowing and rat-infested by days’ end. Consequently, to solve this problem, city officials decided to remove thirty of the trashcans, and place the remaining ones at the entrances to the underground terminals (Fitzsimmons). By taking away trashcans, city officials just made it harder for a large amount of trash to be disposed of.…

It’s just not the way a school place should be treated.”…
