Social media was originally invented to connect the world and provide a platform for people all over the world to communicate their ideas. However, modern times has taken a great turn for social media to even become a place for users to use primarily as a way for news, including fake news. “62% of US adults” use social media as their news outlet, and “44% rely primarily on Facebook”. Considering these data numbers, it becomes apparent to question whether this news channel provides factual synopsis of international events. Instead of reading the concrete articles, users, including myself, tend to click on links that contain a more appealing title or images. At the same time, even under categories such as “News Feed”, there are still possibilities of bias and untruthfulness. …show more content…
Most of the most raved articles do not have factual evidence or support, but instead, the “weight of support” (shares and likes) supports the article's credibility. People start falling into an abyss of foolishness without concerning the world around them. The consequential events become masked under layers of glittery lies and facts that do nothing for the human mind. Society starts turning a blind eye for help and pour its resources for entertainment instead. This crisis can not possibly be erased in one moment, but viewers can view multiple trusted sites to check the facts. Multiple perspectives will be able to provide a clearer and more detailed painting of the incident or argument than only contains one narrow point. Without change, the world becomes muddled under lies and social media becomes another empty shell for irrevelent
