Facebook, Twitter and social media in general have empowered users to change the conversation about discrimination and racism by providing platforms accessible to anyone and creating a more level playing field for individuals to speak out about injustice. Individuals can do so with anonymity and feel safe when sharing evidence of racism or discrimination that isn’t reported by traditional media which gives power to an individual like never before. Contrary to an individual the entertainment and media outlets can use the same platforms to report with bias or use outrageous headlines that misrepresent facts as “clickbait” to drive advertising dollars.
