Interdependence is the dependence of every living organism on all other living things and natural resources in the environment including, air water, and soil. This includes both abiotic and biotic factors. These organisms need each other to live. Without interdependence, the whole food web would collapse. Mutualism Mutualism is a symbiotic relationship that is beneficial to both species in the relationship.…

Swedish researcher Carles Vilà questioned how dogs can have such a wide variety of phenotypes within their single species, “Imagine a great dane standing next to a chihuahua” He decided to conduct a study that was to look at where dogs had thought to evolve from - wolves. So he looked at the mitochondrial DNA of the wolves vs domesticated dogs in an attempt to understand the genetic consequences of 2 very different lifestyles. His hypothesis was that in instances where natural selection had been relaxed, for example the dogs would not face as many obstacles as wild dogs would compared to dogs that had been domesticated, and living under the care of humans, that certain mutations would accumulate faster. Less fit dogs were able to live longer and produce offspring, where as in the wild these dogs would not have survived therefore lost the chance to pass their DNA down into their offspring.…
The mexican gray wolf almost became extinct. “In 1976, the mexican wolf was placed on the Endangered Species List, making the recovery of the species a federal concern. ” It is currently the most endangered species in North America. Not many people know this because almost every one of them are dead.…
We are getting ready for our evening hunt, everyone is gathered and we head off into the woods. After a mile of walking, our alpha smells a herd of muskoxen. At the end of the woods there are muskoxen grazing on the meadow. As we approach the oxen, we spot a weaker ox who is away from the herd. My group who has six wolves goes after this oxen, chasing it until we can grab ahold of it.…
Due to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, the low numbers in the grey wolf population have been closely watched and worried over. Since 1976, the grey wolf populations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan has significantly increased. With such a large increase, there will be many effects to the local human population in these areas everyday lives. Activities, such as hunting, camping, hiking, and raising cattle, will be greatly affected. With the increase in wolf populations, it can difficult and dangerous to participate in hunting.…
The Mexican wolf is the southernmost subspecies of gray wolf in North America, its natural habitat was that of the southwest United States and Mexico, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona as their home range in the US. (Rinkevich, Murphy, & Barrett, 2011). The gray wolves were a menace to rancher’s cattle and farmer’s livestock. Depredation of livestock led ranchers and state governments to declare war on the Mexican gray wolves through public and private bounties. The Mexican gray wolves were successfully removed from the wild.…
One way that humans use animal behavior to tell someone something is territoriality. Territoriality is a behavior that is meant to signify that this person, place, or thing is “mine.” Humans use this to show people that this certain bag is mine or this is my boyfriend so “Back Off.” Animals use it in a few more unsophisticated ways than we do. Animals become territorial when another enters their space or approaches their mate and offspring.…
My older sister, Jen, has always had a mild personality. Her shyness is not what makes her a sheep, though, as it is rather her perception of the world and everybody in that makes her fit into the sheep category. There are three types of people according to Dave Grossman’s On Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs, and while I do not agree with Grossman that the world can be divided into three separate groups, the general basis of his idea is just. According to Grossman, you are a wolf that preys on the weak, a sheep that is weak, or a sheepdog that protects the sheep from the wolves. It is not to say that 100% of the time Jen is a sheep and doesn’t have the ability to be anything other than that, but for the most part, Jen is defined most accurately…
It is quite frankly a large part of the reason there were societies. The bonds of kinship wove individual warriors together into tribes and even kingdoms. Without these bonds, chances are these tribes and kingdoms would have failed to exist. In Beowulf, kinship is seen between Beowulf and his men as well as among the thanes of Hygelac, and Hrothgar. In the Wanderer it cannot be seen directly, but it is seen nostalgically in hindsight.…

Hirschi’s Social Bonding Theory links the beginning of criminal behavior to ties that bind people to society which have been weakened. Hirschi assumes that all individuals have the potential for committing crime, but most do not for fear of damaging close relationships. Those who have strong bonds are less likely to commit crime, while those with weak social bonds are more prone to criminal activity. Hirschi believes that the social bonds a person has with their society consists of four different categories.…

A dog that just had puppies might foster a new litter of kittens because the kittens and the dog that is fostering them might develop a mutual relationship even if they are different species. In the first article it states “ sometimes different species will work as partners. this textual evidence shows that no matter how animals help each each other it is important for their own survival. for example, the dog that just had puppies knows how to care of of her own but considering that the kittens are new and they don’t know how to take care of themselves. So in exchange for guidance the dog that just had puppies that are fostering kittens will get a genuine, mutual relationship from the new kittens.…
