That is about the same as the height of an average five year old. They can weigh up to one hundred seventy-five pounds. Arctic wolves are smaller in size compared to a grey wolf. An arctic wolf however, tends to be bulkier than a gray wolf.
A typical diet for an arctic wolf is an assortment of rodents such as lemmings and arctic hares. “Lemmings”, according to A-Z Animals “are thought to be related to voles and muskrats.” Also as a larger meal, arctic wolves can eat caribou. If a pack comes across a herd of muskoxen, they team up to drive one oxen away from its herd and then they attack it, as a herd is too large for one wolf to attack.
It is common for arctic wolves to either eat a lot or eat nothing. Wolf Country states, “Wolves can eat as much as 22 pounds of meat at a time and then may not eat again for many days.” Arctic wolves use scent, tracking, and chance encounters to hunt prey at dusk. In a pack, only the alpha male and the beta female are allowed to mate to reproduce. The reason for this behavior is to ensure there is enough food for all the pups.
