Males and females are completely different, excluding the known fact that they have different genetic makeups and reproductive systems. In a classroom with 30 students, it is commonly a 50/50 ratio of males to females, however the participation, praise, and critical thinking does not follow the ratio. In a three year study observing over a 100 elementary school classrooms in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, and the District of Columbia; on average boys will raise their hands eight times as often as a girl, receive far more constructive criticism, and be given the chance to individually solve a situation or problem without any assistance. Single sex education has been a doorway for minorities and impoverished families in the United States.

Another benefit that single gender education yields is improved learning because of the accustomed learning style, the teacher has to adopt for single sex classrooms. There are physiological and psychological between boys and girls requiring different teaching techniques. Boys have low serotonin levels and high metabolism, which causes for a fidgety behavior which in turn the girls do not have and this is an obstacle to the females, however in single sex classes, the teacher will apply that to positively impact their academics.

Another different learning style needed is increased space for males because males naturally tend to utilize more space than females because of their spatial brain makeup meaning boys will most likely have papers spread out in a disorganized fashion and females will have their papers in an organized manner taking up the least amount of space. This is natural for each sex to operate differently and the single gender classroom removes the obstacles to allow for the improved academic performance as the result of different spatial
