Is success even considered authentic success if satisfaction isn’t present in the end? American author, Anna Quindlen, once stated, “If your success is not on your own terms, if it looks good to the world but does not feel good in your heart, it is not success at all.” Society believes that by succeeding in your endeavors, you are instantly happy, which isn’t always the case. Within both The Great Gatsby and A Walk to the Jetty, the heartache and struggle from working towards success grows some realization in the mind of the reader that it is a lot more difficult to be truly successful then it is initially anticipated. Throughout A Walk to the Jetty by Jamaica Kincaid and The Great Gatsby by F.
