My interest in being a resident advisor (“RA”) stems from my desire to work intimately, candidly, and meaningfully with other people. My most rewarding relationships have all been built upon some mutually meaningful connection, whether it arises from experiencing grueling football practices together, sharing a common set of interests with someone, or working with others to finish a challenging project. I see the RA position as a way to maximize my likelihood of making these meaningful connections with other individuals, those individuals, in this case, being my future residents and fellow RAs. However, I am not applying to this position for the sole purpose of making friends, and I appreciate that the role of the RA is not always that of a friend. Even so, enhancing the lives of other individuals, with or without a corresponding friendship, is sufficiently fulfilling in and of itself.…

It’s as if you have been put in a garage where, if they don’t have room for something but aren’t sure if they should throw it out, they put it where they don’t need to think of it again.” (Kozol 38)…

When he created us, he meant for us to worship Him and show His love to those around us, but sadly we have gone away from that. We are selfish and we decided that our wants were greater than those of our creator. We tend to focus too much on trivial things like our appearance, social status, technology, etc.…

In this globalized world finding one’s identity has become an arduous task. For those of us who left our country of origin, it is particularly difficult to merge our cultural and personal values as we seek to find our place in this world. This became a potent reminder as we recently traveled across India exploring and enjoying its varied cultures, customs, traditions, and rich history. However, often during the travels, we felt unsure of where we belonged culturally and socially. While we expected this trip to foster an opportunity for identity exploration and formation especially for our children, it turned into moments of confusion and a sense of non-identity.…
