Imagine the idea of being defenseless against an attacker trying to wreck havoc on your teachers and fellow classmates. The worst feeling in the world is when you are helpless, and there is nothing you can do during a situation. Not allowing our teachers to carry a weapon while on school grounds is a great way to achieve this helpless feeling. Since 2013, there have been over two hundred school shootings in America- an average of nearly one a week. Between 2013 and 2015 an average of two shootings on K-12 schools took place per month. with the rise of school shootings going up, we need to give our teachers the right to defend themselves. Whether or not teachers should be armed is rather disputable, with a lot of information to support both sides. People argue that school teachers should be armed with a firearm for defense purposes and to potentially save their own lives as well as students' lives in the event of a school shooting. They believe that with the proper training and authority, this change in schools could save many lives. Others believe that arming teachers would create more danger in schools and instead of decreasing the number of deaths due to school shootings, that number would rise. They think that not only should firearms not be brought into schools because of its distraction to education, but that teachers in possession of a firearm would create accidental…

Although on a rare occasion there may be an iniquitous teacher, the vast majority are benevolent people who are willing to save lives. In various deadly situations of the past, teachers have saved lives by the means of a gun. Because a gun was easily accessible, a Missouri teacher stopped a shooter who “killed two students and wounded seven others at a high school” (Malcolm, 2016, p. 6). However, due to current gun-free zones, the likelihood that a teacher has access to a gun is very slim. By providing every teacher with a gun, more situations like that of Missouri would occur, rather than more situations like the Connecticut shooting at…

Specialists have grasped the concept of becoming proactive instead of reactive to situations where lives are at stake. Professionals believe that arming teachers in school districts can help protect children from the up rise of violence in school. Although this idea may be a headed in the right direction, I feel as if there are more effective procedures. Hiring armed security guards removes the cost a school would have to pay to train teachers. This will also eliminate the risk of schools being dropped from their insurance policies or having to pay more as a result of having armed teachers.…

I do not think teachers should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon on school premises. Outside of school, depending on your background check you may be able to conceal carry, which I do believe is a good idea for safety reasons. The only men or women that should be able to carry a gun on school premises is a police officer, or a retired or undeployed military veteran. They are trained for months, if not years on when and when not to use…

Arming teachers would create a disturbing learning atmosphere for children, and likely lead to parents pulling their kids out of such environments.” The most logical conclusion we can draw from this evidence is that teachers shouldn’t be armed with guns because they could be scared to shoot a student. Not only teachers could get scared to shot their former student but, can cause students and parents can be afraid to be around or having kids around that…
