Most immigrants move to America for the reason of living a better life, this can’t happen if English becomes the official language. So many times, America has been referred to as a, “melting pot”. The whole idea of the melting pot is easier than it sounds; it’s all of the amazing and especially diverse people, communities and cultures we have, all together and unified. This whole concept, the melting pot, this is the unified America that we’ve strived for-- the United States. Another wonderful concept is the, “mosaic”. Time and time again, America is described as a mosaic, (Lewis, 2016). This is all of the wonderful colors and shapes that we as Americans and immigrants form together, it creates a beautiful mosaic that wouldn’t have been made without the diverse community; that mosaic is America-- at least when it’s immigrants are part of the society. Creating an official language would destroy the color in the mosaic; it would be a plain monotone. Making an official language wrecks and ruins diversity. This issue may not concern many of the americans living normal lives, subdued with their own problems, but to immigrants, this is an enormous problem that awaits response. Their lives are so dependent on language and finding others to help them, but they can’t find people to help when nobody else understands them. When they finally learn English, their entire culture is left and forgotten. The immigrants are the foundation that holds the U.S. together, by having an official language, it makes the immigrant life a very hard one to live.
