Million Dollar Degree: College Students Take Unnecessary Required Classes, While Being Significant Overcharged and Promised a Successful Adult Life If you’re hiring someone for a sales position, the applicant’s education history should be a factor. Why wouldn 't it be? The educational qualifications of our workforce is lacking, and the idea that someone with little to no education would be suitable for a position other than a fast food restaurant, is the reason why our businesses aren’t meeting expectations. After all, an investment in your education is an investment in your future. This idea — that going to college should be a requirement to have a successful career and meaningful life — is a common idea among professionals. To be successful in the world of business and life itself, one needs to be educated, right? Not exactly. While some maintain that college enhances one’s life, others suggest that it provides no significant impact on a person’s future. My own view is that college does provide a certain level of thinking that is helpful in the post-college world, however, college comes at a significant financial cost and if one chooses not to attend college it does not disqualify an individual from attaining a successful adult life. One of the most common arguments in favor of higher education is its ability to enhance a person’s life.
