Education is important although it can be expensive it’s worth it. The essay” Yes, A College Education is Worth the Cost” written by Rodney K. Smith, is another example of why investing in education pays off at the end. Sometimes students think education is boring or hard to get. Other times individual think they just waste too much money and don’t see anything in return, but once they are done they become thankful and proud that they did it. In Smith’s article, he mentions statistics for those people who have a certain amount of education and the amount of money that they will receive in a weekly income. He also shows the percentages of people who are unemployed depending on how much education they received so far in their lives. Smith then tells a story regarding his dad being an only son and his grandparents being farmers. Grandpa wanted his dad to be a farmer and work the land. Grandma wanted her son to get education. She convinced grandpa to allow her son to attend high school and continue college. His grandpa had to make the hardest decision. At the end grandpa allowed his son to attend high school and college, he also gave his son all the family’s money savings they had for him to pay college. This essay could be for any type of audience. It can be for parents so that they can help the kids with their education. Teens or young adults would also be a good choice because it gives them a short outlook of what education can do for them in the long run according to Smiths statistics. It can help motivate those individuals to get higher ranks of education for other kinds of purposes. The way that smith wrote his article was a great way to show reality when it comes to having education and to also show that its worth to invest in education. In the article “Yes, A College Education is Worth the Cost” Smith uses Logos by showing unemployment statistics. He does this so that a reader knows how much influence education can have in a person’s life. Smith does not mention just one statistic for a certain level of education. He does it for several levels so that the reader can see the difference between the lowest type of education and the highest. A good statistic smith has in his article is “14.9% of those without a high school diploma face unemployment.” He does this to show that even with high school education there is a high chance people will not a have job. He tells a story of when a football player goes and complains about taking a music history class. The football player is obligated to take those classes and attend to the concerts. At first the student did not like it but over time he started enjoy it. Then Smith ends it on how the student got a job and loves music(6). This story demonstrates that the author has experience in seeing this types of scenarios. It also shows the reader that education might not always be something a person wants, but it’s something they might enjoy later
