There has been an exponential growth in educational technology advancement over the past few years. From overhead projectors to iPads or computer, it is important to understand not only what is coming next but, what is students use for themselves to make life easier: to communicate with friends and family and to seek information when it is needed. The majority of young people are using cell phones in many good ways such as communicating with friends and family, seeking information on online that will useful when doing assignment or project. On the other hand, the consequence of using cell phone in school is not a good thing all the time. In today 's classrooms, instructors face many challenges when they are trying to get students’ attention: to participate in class, to communicate, and to discuss things that they are learning . The rapid growth of mobile computing, including smartphones and tablets, has caused serious problem distractions in classroom. According to a 2003 survey, “70 percent of students in grades 6-12, and 61 percent of students in grades 3-6 said they use cell phones either in school or during free times. Not all these uses are positive, however.”(Pickett and Thomas,40). This survey reports the numbers of many students of different ages and grades are using cell phones in school that are not all beneficial for them. This is such a dangerous thing seeing more than half of young children are using devices. The disadvantage of using cell phones in class is when the use of cell phones bring up a distraction in students’ lives that are less important than things that are happening in the classroom. For example, students rather go on social media such as playing facebook, instagram and watching videos from youtube, than focusing on what the instructor is teaching and what is happening in the classroom. Sometimes the use of cellphones in the classroom do not only hurt students but it could be bothering the students that are trying to focus and it …show more content…
Many people might not notice the use of cell phones could have negative impact on each other in school. Yet, it has already happened that we need to pay attention and make sure the problem is solved. There was a time when cyber-bullying in school was easier for the bullied and many think it isn’t a big deal. Nowadays, since students have cell phones: to record video, to take pictures, and to record voice, students are able to bully one another in a such creative way such as sending mean, embarrassing, hurtful messages about someone, which can result in serious consequences. The constant access to social media and to each other enables students to spread information or photos very quickly, which can make life unbearable for those being harassed.
