Should Abortion Be Legal? Essay

When I was younger, I thought of abortion as the worst thing that could ever happen. Why would anyone want to kill a baby? But not many women want to kill their own child. According to Frederica Mathewes-Green, “No woman wants an abortion as she wants an ice cream cone or a Porsche. She wants an abortion as an animal caught in a trap wants to gnaw off its own leg” (Mathewes-Green). I believe that abortion should stay legal because of three reasons: It could cause endangerment to the mother (12%), the mother was raped (2%), or the baby has a fatal medical condition (41%). The other 45% are women whom are unable to take care of the child or they do not want the child.
Would you be able to give birth to a child knowing that there is high likelihood of it endangering you? What if a malignant tumor forms? The only forms of treatment you can receive are ones safe for pregnant woman, but what if those aren’t working. If you don’t treat it, it will only grow or spread. You’re forced to choose between yours and your child’s life. Would you rather save one life or take the chance of losing both lives? That’s a big and really tough decision.
Now imagine that one night you’re walking down the street, it’s dark and someone grabs you behind the back and takes you into an alley. They then torture and rape you. You go to the cops, they preform a rape kit, and you’re forced to tell your nightmare over and over again. Every time it changes because your mind is so flustered that your mind…
