The sun’s burning rays beat down on us as we dug through the layers of Egyptian sand and rock. We had only begun the excavation the previous day and had already uncovered one-fifth of the ancient pyramid. I, as well as a team of high-ranking archaeologists, had accompanied Sarah Parcak in an expedition to unearth a lost Egyptian pyramid. “How’s your section of the chamber coming along, Erica? We’ve just uncovered a new sarcophagus,” remarked Sarah as she passed by, carrying a large coffin.…

Sally Burt is the kindest woman you could ever meet. Many take her kindness for weakness, because she tends to be very passive, but don’t let her fool you, because she does have a feisty side. She is fifty-six years of age, but has the vitality of a twenty-six year old. She has dark brown eyes that sparkle every time she speaks; her light brown skin glows ever so radiantly as the sun hits her; she has thick, brown, short hair that caresses her shoulders. Her loving smile can brighten up anyone’s day; she stands tall at 5’6, and walks proudly, while loving her voluptuous curves.…
Finding someone to admire is a difficult task in itself. The title of role model can be bestowed to anyone ranging from a celebrity or to the local mail carrier. Whoever it is, they are someone you are proud to look up to no matter what, and can always depend on. Fortunately, I have a person who I partisan and proudly call my role model. This person goes by the name Rachel Meyers, she has been my role model for two years and she is a marvelous friend of mine.…
First, let me say my mother's attorney, Laird Lambert told me in June of 2014 that Mary Ann planned this lawsuit in 2011. For what reason I do not know. I know Mary Ann was angry when I took my mother here. Mary Ann would not let my mother live with her.…
In the discombobulation of day to day life, all types of people are going to try to knock you down. This hardship was experienced personally by Brenda Roza as she realized that “there may not be that person next to you that's going to speak up for you”. There is no reason for strangers being malicious, to try to knock other people down when they’re not even known to you. Regardless, it is imperative that you are able to defend yourself- just as Brenda Roza did. Having been told throughout her entire life that she couldn’t do certain things, Brenda thought that that being a successful person might be beyond reach to her - impossible.…
Julia Coluzzi-Carioti, without whom I may not be here. Near the end of seventh grade, I asked my parents if I could go to a GSA field trip. My parents who do not support Lgbtq+ affiliates, decided that public school was influencing me for worse, they thought I was giving into an agenda. So they sent me to a private christian school. I lost all contact with friends from public school, except Julia, she was the only person I could talk to about all the pent anger and sadness I had.…
In the essay, "When living is a fate worse than death," by Christine Mitchell, she wrote about a suffering 3 year old child named Charlotte who was born with too few brain cells to do anything else but breathe. At birth doctors removed most of her brain to avoid instant death due to her brain being in a sac outside her skull. Her parents, who were born and raised in Haiti, moved to the United States with hopes for a cure for their sick child. The new parents, encouraged the doctors to do all they could to save her. Not realizing that it would be the worse decsion they could make for their baby girl.…
I opened up my eyes for the first time on February 15, 1820 to see my beautiful mother and father, Daniel and Lucy Anthony. I was born into a Quaker family. I read the newspaper one day to see that African Americans were being treated differently than us whites. This was the moment when I knew something was wrong and I wanted to do something about it. When I turned the age 17, I collected anti-slavery petitions.…
My Autobiography I am a human on planet earth, along with the other seven billion people. But I’m not like the seven billion people. Yes, we have similarities but I am me. I am myself. To every last detail.…
In the mountains, on our drive last weekend Jon and I saw leaves that were beautiful. He has an obsessive desire to set fires, so they labeled him a pyromaniac. Mrs. Jones is my science teacher. The bulky, heavy box fell on my foot. I lost my small plastic key ring.…
On September 23, 2016, I interview 37-year-old Wendy Weeks. “Sometimes the most valuable lessons,” she observed “is learning what you don’t want in life.” I had a weird look on my face and I asked her what did she mean by this statement. Weeks prove by saying “ That some lesson you need to realize that in life there will be things you do not want.” I still did not understand what she meant.…
As a dancer, I was the kid who went down to the mall and took tap and ballet, and I was very serious about it. I wanted to be a dancer. And then when I was in high school, I was in choir. And because of being in dance and being able to sing, I would audition for the big musical every year. So I was always in the big musical every year.…
Have you ever had someone who influenced you in the best way possible and helped you get as far as you are now? Well I had one and her name was Mrs. Martin. She taught at the school Watterson-Lake Elementary School and I, Alicia Fletcher, was the student whose life she changed. I was a tall, chubby girl who wore glasses and was so loud to everyone, but quiet when it was time to do work. I was taller than all the students in my grade which made me feel out of place, like I did not belong.…
