Schoolwide Clustering Group Model Analysis

I was very interested in finding out more information about the Schoolwide Clustering Group Model (SCGM), so I have chosen my school to be based on this model. From the readings on gifted and talented education, it has been stated that schools today are experiencing dramatic changes. Gifted programs that have been around for years are disappearing, and will not likely be replaced any time soon due to budget issues. That is why I chose the SCGM because I believe it is a solution to helping gifted and talented students reach their potential, and it does not seem to require as much money as other programs to implement. Furthermore, the plan includes equitable and effective measures for the entire student body. Testing, as with all schools, is done once a year. It would include intelligence and ability tests combined with teacher observation, performance based evidence, and parental notes. Every new student to the school must be tested as well. Identified gifted students receive services, regardless of their area(s) of identification, ability level, achievement. Flexible grouping allows students to work with others who share similar interests, require more challenging levels of complexity, or have similar learning preferences, hence more motivated students. Groupings should change according to the content or targeted objectives. With flexible grouping it can be less noticeable to other students who the gifted students are. This anonymity may allow those students who underachieve due to not wanting to be recognized for their high intelligence to increase their motivation to work.
