Companies have successfully, marketed their products towards an unsuspecting consumer group, children. A child having a temper-tantrum holds more influence than the average person would imagine. These children are able to convince their parents into buying toys that are used once and then sent to the dump. This type of advertising brings about the question of morality is advertising products towards kids. In the current century it is nearly impossible to shield children from all types of advertising. Children view everything from T.V. ads, to billboards, to magazine ads. A reasonable solution to this issue is to ensure that only positive ads, ads that are beneficially to the development of children, are available. Children are easily influenced by their surroundings, and marketers should use this information to encourage healthy habits. Advertisements which promote recycling and environmental awareness could allow these children to guide their parents into changing their lifestyle. “Sainsbury’s has created the Blue Parrot range of healthy kids’ food, children’s TV channel Nickelodeon promoted fresh fruit and vegetables on its stations and the massive marketing budgets behind the Harry Potter books are credited with encouraging children to read.” (Source B) The United States has become extremely obese and wasteful with its products, but positive advertising could create a healthier, cleaner generation of children watching them. Children pick up habits easily because they are still developing their brains therefore they would easily learn to recycle and eat healthy.
