I know there are various types of support groups available in our community such as chronic pain, brain injury, grief, Alzheimer's, and more. Support groups are great because it forces the individual out of the house to have a social interaction. It also allows for a safe environment where individuals are comfortable to share their personal stories and thoughts. Having others there, sharing similar stories and feelings show that you are not alone. The only problem with support groups in that to my knowledge you need to register or have a referral to go, which might be an obstacle for some people. For grief specifically, I think just that reassurance that it perfectly fine to take time off to process your feelings helps a lot. Emotional well-being is one of those things that people like to ignore and often feel guilty of. Offering literature on the stages and concepts of grieving can also help the individual gain a better understanding what they are going through. There are parts of grief that are overshadowed by the mourning aspect of it. Without knowing everything that is entailed with grief, an individual might think that something is wrong with them for going against the norm.
