The Romans adopted various engineering practices that made them dominate the construction field for a long time. Despite the falling of the Roman empire more than 1400 years ago, the innovation and inventions remain conspicuous up to date. These individuals were experts in building and civil engineering, and their civilization resulted in technological advancements. Additionally, the engineers were hardworking, and once they completed an outstanding structure within ten days after ordering the construction (Peter et al. 18). However, numerous numbers of slaves completed most of the activities. Among the outstanding events was there was the invention of concrete and cement, as well as the provision of running water to the city residents.
Design of Concrete and Cement
Most of the ancient Roman structures including the Pantheon and Coliseum are still available up to date. These structures strength is a result of the inventions of Roman cement and concrete. The engineers understood the importance of having such resources, and so they began building with concrete during the ancient …show more content…
According to Scott Schlimngen, a contributor in the YouTube video documentary, the capital city had a stream that carried approximately 200 million gallons in a day (Peter et al. 20) most of the water the public had used in activities like sewers and bathing. In achieving this goal, the engineers would build aqueducts that stretched for many kilometers and descended from elevations of 1,000 feet above the sea level. Without these aqueducts, it would have been impossible to construct the big cities. It was also possible to keep the city clean due to the availability of this water in
