The Western Roman Empire, it had many emperors, some of them were good and led the empire to great victories, but most of them were poor, lousy, cheap, and flawed and led them to great destructions. The lousy emperors inherited the throne but they lacked the ability to lead the Western Roman Empire and were mentally unstable to rule. The legionaries wanted a higher salary, so they went “on strike” and said that they would not defend the WRE until they got it. To make sure that the legionaries got a higher salary, the empire put higher taxes on everyday items. There was a growing desire by the people of the WRE to have more goods purchased from outside of the empire. Which led to less economic growth within Rome. Of course this was a problem because to get goods from other empires, they need to get shipments from over the Mediterranean Sea. This cost lots of money, which the Western Roman Empire was running out of. Not only did pirates rob the merchandise from the ships, but they also stole the ships. The empire also had high tariffs (taxes on imported goods). Within the desire for goods from outside of the empire, pirates stealing goods and ships off of the Mediterranean Sea, and high tariffs, the WRE definitely has economic problems. That’s not all, in fact that’s about half of the WRE’s economic problems. They also have less gold being imported to Rome, which is affecting how much gold is put on coins and less coins are produced. The empire starts to make the coins much smaller. In consequence, people believe that inflation has occurred, so they start to barter rather than exchange money. This means limited money flow.
