There are many challenges we need to face when we are learning how to be a disciple of Jesus. According to St. Francis of Assisi, to be a disciple of Christ, “We have been called to heal wounds, to unite what has fallen apart, and to bring home those who have lost their way. (St. Francis of Assisi)” In addition, to truly understand the role of being a disciple, ones need to know these roles and need to incorporate them through using their time and talent. Although being a disciple of Christ can be challenging, as a Christian, we are called to be a disciple of Christ, and to manifest the teaching of the Church to others.

So, I chose an organization that is called the Food Bank Organization, and it addresses poverty, which is considered a common issue in both Camden and Wilmington. This organization is a member of the Feeding America and is a statewide nonprofit agency whose main goal is to address the problem of hunger and homelessness in a community. Their mission is to provide foods for people, specifically the Delawareans. They inform different communities about hunger issues and food securities to prevent further poverty and to ask for help. They also trained those unemployed individuals to fill needed positions within the food services industry. So, every year, Padua sophomores would go down to Camden, New Jersey and help to volunteer at a Catholic School. I was a sophomore during this year, and I went down to Camden, New Jersey with the other Padua sophomores. Before I got to Camden, I didn’t know what to expect, but from what I heard, Camden was a very poor city with high crime rates and drug use. Although I was excited and scared, I was willing to do anything to help and share my time and talent to serve the people in Camden. For examples, during my Camden day, I spent most of the morning doing yard work. I was praised a lot for being good at doing yard work. Because of this, I shared my talent and time to make the school look prettier, and make a better environment for the children that goes to the school. I was glad that I was able to help, and help those children. The experience in Camden motivated me to serve more, and it also made me realize that compared to those who live in Camden, I live in a much better environment. This is why I should treasure every moment and everything I have now because there are others out there in the world who do not have what I
