The two reasons are, naps with deep sleep help brains function at a high level, and segmented sleep improves daytime performance.
Two more important pieces of evidence for the first reason are , “...recent studies suggest that any deep sleep- whether in an eight-hour block or a 36-minute nap- primes our brains to function at a higher level, letting us come up with better ideas, find solutions to puzzles more quickly, identify patterns faster, and call information more accurately.”(lines 51-54), and “ Researchers at the City University of New York found that short naps helped subjects identify more literal and …show more content…
Randall has 11 sources. 9 of them are credible and 2 of them are primary. But even his primary sources are sort of credible. For example, “ Napping before games helps MLB players on the Texas Rangers feel physically and mentally ready for the game.”(lines 92-95). This is a primary source because the Texas Rangers are not experts or they don’t study the subject. But this shows how if people do have a nap they can perform better because if they are tired before their game and then they get some extra sleep, they can not be as tired and refreshed and perform better at the game. This could relate to lots of people because most people are in a sport and this can help them too. One of his credible sources is, “ Researchers at the City University of New York found that short naps helped subjects identify more literal and figurative connections between objects than those who simply stayed awake.”(line 60). This means that when people don’t have segmented sleep, they can’t make as many “literal and figurative connections between objects”(can’t understand them as much). As for the people who do sleep in segmented sleep, they can understand the topic more. This is credible because this is knowledge and studies from people who study sleep instead of just a guy who learns about it but doesn’t do anything with
