One of the most common ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ is to get fit. Depending on the person, this can mean losing weight, gaining muscle or just being active. The podcast Barbell Shrugged, hosted by Mike Bledsoe and Doug Larson, is updated weekly with new content related to weightlifting and training. The topics vary greatly, ranging from How to Fix Your Lower Back to The Pros and Cons of Scaling Workouts. For each week’s topic, the hosts bring a special guest with an expertise in the area to be discussed. So, travelers must make arrangements to prepare themselves.” Kirk’s point here is expanded on when he talks about how technology has advanced much faster than the human body. For example, our current body form did not evolve in a society where we could travel across 12 time zones in one day. This is why travelers feel jet lagged, what happens when their internal body clock is off balance, for at least a day after modern day traveling across just one time zone. When the current form of the body was developed, however, the time it would take to walk across a time zone would give the internal clock time to adjust. Humans have no built in mechanisms to combat modern day travel fatigue, so extra precautions and tactics should be followed to keep humans at top efficiency. All humans feel effects similar to jet lag twice a year, and the precautions needed for modern day travel are similar to those that can be taken during a Daylight Savings change.
