Responsibilities Of An American Citizen Essay

As American citizens we all have responsibilities to America and every American citizen the same amount of responsibility and amount of work. Every citizen will have the basic responsibilities such as respecting and obeying the local, state and federal laws. Another responsibility would be paying state and federal taxes on time and honestly. Beyond these basic responsibilities each citizen has their own responsibilities.
Some Americans feel their responsibility is to help defend America. This means to defend the country and enlist in the military. While others feel like they need to help support their local communities by volunteering their time in charities, churches and local events.
For me an idea for my own responsibility for America is to get an education because having that gives more knowledge about government and the country. Having this understanding you are able to comprehend what is going on giving an educated voice. I want to go into the dental field and become a dental hygienist. My responsibility includes environmental and culture awareness. In North Dakota there is the protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Not a lot of Americans understand the problem. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe are protesting against the construction of the pipeline. Most Americans only think the tribe is protesting against the pipeline because it goes through their reservations disturbing sacred lands and burial grounds. The problem is so much more than that. The pipeline construction will be under the Missouri River which will cause an environmental impact and potentially contaminate the drinking water. In case of the pipe spilling into the water it will cause not only environmental stress to the area and pollute the drinking water, but it would cost a substantial amount to clean and
