Church in schools has caused problems for many years and probably many more years to come. In the case of Wisconsin vs Yoder the young Amish men were fighting because their religion made them live out of the world from ages 14-16, the school out weighed the individual rights. An Arkansas law banning teaching the idea of evolution was unconstitutional, because it was based on “fundamentalist sectarian conviction” and violated the Establishment Clause. In Maryland they made it a requirement that candidates for public office swear that they believe in God and it was religious test and violated Article 5 of the Constitution as well as the First and Fourteenth Amendments. The Air Force penalties against a Jewish priest who wore a yarmulke (skull cap) on duty in protest of regulations was upheld. The military’s demand of uniformity outweighed the individual right to free exercise. The Court ruled that states could not deny unemployment benefits to a person for turning down a job because it required him/her to work on a religious day. Requiring a person to abandon their religious convictions in order to receive benefits was a violation of the Free Exercise Clause. Aggressive religious groups are loitering hard to make government programs better suited to their religions. Policy should be based on the public interest and principles of fairness and equality. Religion is more of a personal thing for people they do not always want to share their beliefs with others and I think that it should be the same with government members that they can not be bias to one certain religion. So in the end I think that this will be a never ending problem that continues for decades.
In this essay we talked about how religion in school is not always a good idea because some kids may be bullied from other kids just based on what their beliefs and traditions are. The government may try to make bias decisions based on the religious views of the members. Finally we talked about my opinions of religion and government and how they do not mix with the thoughts of others, but that's just my opinion. In the end like I have stated before I think that this is a never ending problem that will challenge us for years to
