Books related to anything art or religion such as the Bible or Shakespeare have been hidden so it is impossible for the citizens to come across. To make up for the idea of church, the community participates in a solidarity service where twelve members interact in a soma orgy. Soma has allowed these individuals to experience this greater feeling without of the idea of God. But the idea of religion is not completely thrown away in this solidarity service, the idea of twelve members relates to the twelve apostles and God and Jesus are relevant in the binding known as the orgy. “God isn’t compatible with machinery and scientific medicine and universal happiness. You must make your choice. Our civilization has chosen machinery and medicine,” (Huxley 159). Brave New World lacks both art and religion because it would allow each individual to explore their own mind and have an imagination or opinion of their own. With science overpowering the citizens, they are forced to follow an order and always be happy because there is no one questioning their ideals or beliefs. Science and technology has pathed the way for the citizens of World State and the government has made sure the progression of science is the perfect amount so citizens stay happy and content with what they have been conditioned to do. They are unaware of the past and are controlled in a way that does not allow them to explore a deeper meaning of life to once again, keep everyone happy in the community. They have been given scientific advancements such as soma, to help balance their emotions and keep them from making irrational decisions blinded by emotion. Happiness is soon corrupted when more characters are introduced and show the citizens of World State that there is more to life than they are conditioned to
