The pastor had just finished a profound message about sharing the light of Jesus in your heart, and the whole time he was speaking, I felt that he was speaking directly to me. As he closed his sermon, the camp counselors passed candles down the aisle to each kid at the camp. When the person to the left of me lit my candle with theirs, my heart started beating faster and faster. The longer I stood there, the more certain I became. God was calling me to be a missionary.

Ever since I started looking for the right college for me, I have wanted to be in a small, close-knit community of believers where I could grow closer to God and help others grow in their walk with Christ as well. I am attracted to the community of believers at Taylor because I feel that while on campus I will be able to grow closer to God while building lifelong friendships. I believe the classes and opportunities I will be able to take part in at Taylor will help me figure out where God’s calling me to serve. It appeals to me that while in college, I will be able to focus on God and my academics while in the midst of other students doing the same thing. I cannot think of anything better than being surrounded by professors and peers who legitimately want to help me find exactly where God is leading me. A community that cares is an unbeatable feature a college can offer, and I cannot wait to experience that community first

Without the relationships I have made with the girls in my grade at Northwest I am not sure if I would have even continued my walk with God. Not only have my friends been a major influence, but so have my teachers. During class they just have shown the light of Jesus through their teaching. I have embraced the style of teaching from a christian worldview, which I had never had before. Some teachers have sat with me and talked for hours, and that has really opened my eyes as to how much they want to pour into us.…

“Worldviews shape not just our individual lives, but universities as well.” (Why College Matters To God, 20) I believe that the main way that we should live in the world is through listening to and being able to talk to people openly about differences in beliefs and social differences. If one strives to be conscious of and learn from other points of views and experiences, one can be enlightened and educated in things that they might have missed otherwise.…

I am interested in the Early College Academy because it is a great opportunity. I understand that I will have to do a lot more work here than in other schools because of the college courses, but that does not matter to me. I will still study and work hard for the duration of my time here. This is the only school in which I can knock off two years of college for free. I also like the schedule here and how it's shorter, but I understand that I will have to use the rest of the time for studying and that's alright for me because in order achieve one's goals one has to work hard and that's what I…

During my first year at Spelman College, I have not necessarily acquired any new writing skills. However, I have definitely sharpened three imperative writing skills, including: forming my ideas, reasoning, and synthesis (based on readings and discussions) to develop the content of my essays, integrating sources and evidence that corroborate my beliefs, and making my writing more clear and concise. In addition, I still stand in the process of learning to write well under the pressure of time constraints. To illustrate my points, At Spelman, I have been required to read and discuss for every single class I have enrolled in.…

Calvary Commission, the seminary that I stayed at, is located a few miles out of town on a land that seems to never end. I could walk miles and still find myself to be on Calvary Commission’s property. The first day I was there, my group and I went on a little hike up to the prayer chapel, which sat on the top of a hill, surrounded by trees, and a bonfire pit stood a few feet away. This was my group’s first real exposure to how great the people at Calvary Commission are.…
