During a few of my field practicums in child care centres as a student-teacher, discrepancies between colleagues occasionally arose. These include when the teachers encountered miscommunication and lacked clear roles when encountering a difficult situation.
An example of such an instance was when two teachers who split their class into two groups who did not have clear communication between them. A mother who wanted to drop her child off was continuously told to go to the other group. I intervened and convinced the mother to leave the child with me. At first, the teacher I was with was quite upset, as I seemed to have overstepped my boundary.

This is because an organisation would not be able to work effectively if the employees do not work well with one another. In an event whereby two colleagues are in not so good terms with each other, the level of productivity drops, and energy that should be spent on working would be instead spent on counterproductive actions. This involves a lot of negotiation and communication between all parties, and knowing how to get the employees to cooperate is also particularly important for managing relations.
As such, I feel that managing relations is essential to this university course as it is an important skill for any business to have. Being able to identify and resolve conflicts between employees and their concerns would encourage a more positive work environment which would greatly benefit the organisation.
Therefore, I believe that through the university programme, I would be able to better hone my skills of managing relations so that when I enter the industry in the future, I would be prepared for what is expected of me as a human resource
