• Insomnia (a hard time falling or staying asleep)
• Sleep apnea (breathing interruptions during sleep)
• Restless leg syndrome (a tingling or prickly sensation in the legs)
• Narcolepsy (daytime "sleep attacks")
There are numerous types of sleep problems or disorders but I thought I would focus on the most common disorders. Insomnia for starters is when a person has trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep. There are two types of insomnia and those are primary insomnia and secondary insomnia. Primary insomnia occurs when a person has sleep problems and those problems …show more content…
These can also include pain, a certain medication a person is taking, or a substance they are using like drugs or alcohol. Insomnia can also be grouped into how long they last; it can either be acute (short term) or chronic (long term). There is however ways to fix this medically sleeping pills and so on. The second type I want to focus on is sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a common disorder where the sleepers breathing pauses anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes and has only been considered chronic. Then when normal breathing starts up again it does so with a loud snore or choking noise. One of the worst parts about sleep apnea is that the people who have it don’t actually know about it. They stop breathing and wake up, but it is so brief that no one remembers waking up in the middle of the night to breathe. Sleep apnea usually goes undiagnosed because there is literally no way to test for it other than sleeping. Sleep apnea is not only bad for the person who has it but also for anyone who shares a room or bed with that person. The snoring …show more content…
Thankfully it’s not bad enough to disrupt my sleep. Restless legs syndrome is in fact a type of sleeping disorder because if it is severe enough it can cause you to wake in the middle of the night and at times get up and move around. This is bad, because once you wake up and move a bit it can be difficult to go back to sleep and you never know when your legs will act up again. Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder and can be characterized by throbbing, pulling, creeping, or other unpleasant sensations in the legs. There is also an uncontrollable and sometime overwhelming urge to move them. Finally let’s talk about narcolepsy, which is a disorder where the person affected with it has random “sleep attacks”. This means that they fall asleep randomly especially when their heart rate increases by being startled, excited, or even during sex. Although their heart rate being elevated is a big factor they can also just fall asleep randomly. These “attacks” can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Although they have these attacks they tend to have the same sleep patterns as a normal person. This means that although they randomly fall asleep during the day they also wake up occasionally throughout the night. While all of these are super hazardous to one’s health this one has to be the worst because you can fall asleep randomly even at the wheel of a car. These are hazardous to your health
