Most people’s first job is school, as soon as they reach the proper age children are sent to schools to learn math, science, english, and several other subjects. All throughout our childhood we are sent to school and told this will give us an education. School is not necessary for a person to be educated and successful because people learn more through lessons in the real world while schools simply provide their students with crutches that give the illusion of being truly educated. Every year millions of students are enrolled in schools varying from elementary to college believing this guarantees them a proper education. The best way for a person to learn is to live in the real world and learn as they live. Real world experience teaches important life lessons and important skills that grant a person the ability to prosper. In the real world one will adapt and learn to survive, but in a school that person is protected and therefore is not given the necessary experience to live in an unfair world. While a college degree can potentially help one to get a higher paying job it is not necessary to become successful. Some of the worlds greatest minds did not have formal schooling such as Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Steve Jobs, and many more. These people did not need a school to be properly educated and they became brilliant and successful. Like a high school diploma, a college degree can be won through simply cramming one’s head with random facts and being attentive in a class. A college degree may look good on a resume, but “is a poor substitute for an edu­cation” (Watts). To become educated one should be motivated by their love for the subject, not by a diploma or
