Reading Memoir John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, stated,” Great books help you understand, and they help you feel understood.” Actually, reading books helps me to explore the world. When I was just a little girl, I loved reading fairy tales which brought me to many vicarious thrilling adventures, and when growing up, non-fiction books taught me how to become a good person. Besides that, reading has brought me to many various levels of emotions, such as joy, love, hate, fear, and sorrow. Some stories not only make me feel euphoric with happy endings, but they also make me feel despondent when a character’s deep sorrow touched my heart. In retrospect, my reading memories have formed my way of thinking and my characteristics as well.
In my childhood, I read many interesting comic books from preschool, which is still on my mind. The first comic book I read was Bo Con, translated into English is Lost Calf. Since this was my first book, I finished it with help from my dad. That story was about a journey of a cow to find her lost calf, and she burst into tears when she found her baby. My teacher has guided me in reading books by interesting in-class reading resources such as How Reading Changed My Life by Anna Quindlen, and Saved by Malcolm X. I love Anna’s quote “All of reading is really only finding the ways to name ourselves, and, perhaps, to name the others around us so that they will no longer seem like strangers.” Additionally, Saved by Malcom X gives me inspiration through his homemade education in prison. Moreover, she inspired me to read more in order to change my life better. After a month, I start my passion in reading books again. From my friend’s recommendation, I am reading Men Are from Mars, and Women Are from Venus by John Gray, and Outliers – The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell.
