It is a major obstacle and hindrance in the the treatment of infectious disease caused by bacteria. Persistence of antibiotic resistance is that certain antibiotics will no longer be used to successfully treat certain infections. The result of this is that individuals affected by these bacteria will suffer for prolonged periods of times without being able to get the treatment they need. This will result in more frequent hospital visits and an overall decline on health. If people are more aware of the dangers of being careless with antibiotics then they will be more careful with their use. Because the overuse of antibiotics in recent years has played a large role in increasing the prevalence of antibiotic resistant bacteria, public health policies that limit and prevent this overuse should be strictly enforced in countries all around the world.
