Protecting the ones we love should be a top priority. So many children around the world get sick with the flu and so many parents vouch against getting vaccinated. These parents are either overprotective by not wanting their children to cry, or believe the medicine is harmful. More parents, as well as anyone planning to have children, should be educated on the importance and benefits of vaccinating children. The immunizations administered to children are beneficial and lead to a long life. For example, “Polio was once America’s most-feared disease,... but today, thanks to vaccination, there are no reports of polio in the United States” (“Five Important Reasons to Vaccinate Your Child”). Most diseases once haunting and affecting young children are either extinct or very rare because of immunization. These drugs are the reason children do not get infected. It is understandable that back then child medicine was not as advanced as it is now so parents did not want to waste their time, or hurt their babies, for a drug that may not work. Now, child medicine is very advanced and is not administered until doctors and scientists know it is safe and effective. The leading cause of parents not wanting vaccines administered to their children is the fact that they believe the drugs cause mental disorders such as autism.
