I’ll just preface this by saying I had an extremely hard time choosing a director. I love film and drowned myself in choices; but the director I chose is a personal favorite of mine as well as an amazing director that could take this project to the next level, David Fincher. Anyone who loves film knows the Finch, the guy behind Fight Club, Gone Girl, Se7en, and my personal favorite, Zodiac (so underrated it should be criminal). So why would Fincher make a good director for, 1996? His artistic style would blend really well with the dark realness of the script in terms of lighting and camera movements. Let me elaborate, his tendency for lower-key lighting would mesh well with the grittiness of the 1990s as well as the overall vibe of impending ruin. Let me explain, she writes an exaggerated version of herself for The Mindy Project, which is fine, but I feel that she’s pigeonholing herself. She says she’s not her character, but it’s pretty much her with a few traits added, overstated, and withheld. Lena Dunham does the same thing. Writing yourself in any sort of way is easy, and she’s never challenged herself to do something different. In that sense, I feel her characters are kind of one-note. She’s the funny girl, where is the other side of her? This goes into a second weakness I think she has. Mindy is one note. I hate saying this, but I think it’s true. The funny pop-culture loving girl shtick is great, but what range, depth, outside the box thinking do you have? I have never seen her stretch. I like writer’s and directors who challenge themselves and I don’t think she does. I would love to see her do something dark or terrible just to shake things up. I think as an artist you have to keep evolving and growing, and honestly, I don’t see very much

Russian director, Timur Bekmambetov, he is the cream of the crop, he turns this comic into a movie that make the viewers not sit still and make their adrenaline and cortisone levels spike with the actions. Bekmambetov used the similar style of shots and angles with his previous movie, Night watch. It's more to wide angle (long shot), so we can see the terrifying background like one of the scenes in the torture room, where Wes has been beaten up by the butcher.
