Prayer Rug With Niche Design

I chose this piece of art from the Islamic Art Department. The object title is “Prayer Rug with Niche Design”. This work is made by James F. Ballard in the 19th century. This piece made using symmetrically knotted piles of wool. The Prayer Rug is 65 inches’ height by 50 inches’ width. This Prayer Rug represents the Islamic religion because it’s a tool that Muslims use by placing it between the worshipper and the ground for cleanliness while praying. The Prayer Rug is being used by Muslims for praying until now in the 21st century. This piece is displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art along with the Collection of Oriental Rugs in New York.
