This spring semester in my 1301 art class we attended the Martha Fenstermarker Memorial Art Gallery at Laredo Community College. I must say that my attention was captivated by the art that was being displayed though out the gallery. Although the paintings on the wall were smaller than expected, they each had amazing detail. “Beirut Sea and baby” by Lahib Jaddo is a stunning acrylic on panel art work that caught my eye and blocked out the rest of the exhibitions. This acrylic on panel piece contains from, content, color, light contrast, scale and proportion and sets a happy tone.
Form and content take place in every piece of art. Form refers to a three dimensional work of art. It is the concept that encapsulates all visible features. For example, what techniques, style or media was used. Content refers to the meaning, message or feeling impacted by the work of art. Content

The artist used contrast by adding colors that are opposite from each other. Also, adding smooth and rough textures in this painting. Such as, the color of the ocean and the rocks on the sand. The artist used a royal blue and a light blue to create the ocean these two colors are similar to each other but create contrast since one is lighter than the other. The colors used to depict the sand vs. the rocks create an illusion of rough vs. smooth. Since this is the opposite of each other it is considered contrast. Emphasis and Subordination is where the artist draws an object or an area that draws the attention and becomes the main focal point of the artwork. In “Beirut Sea and baby” the woman standing near the shore with the baby on her arms is the main focus of the painting. The reason she is the main attention of the painting is because everything else appears either smaller or blurry. The ocean and details appear further away in the scene, while the woman is the larger object that draws the

For this analysis, the artwork I selected a Volute Krater made in Greece during the 4th century B.C.E. The artist, The Underworld Painter, uses several lines, especially in the temple made for Atlas. The horizontal and vertical lines give the temple definite shape because of the thickness and they signify that a hero who has died, is the focal point on the back of the vase. The artist also uses curved lines at the top of the vase to show the richness of detail and drive the story further. The artist also uses the pointing hands of several figures to show a psychological point; Atlas on his throne and Selene driving her chariot.…

Digital illustrator, Lauren Elise Reeves, is one of the three artist responsible for the many impressive masterpieces, exhibited in the Art Gallery of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the Westside campus of Western Connecticut State University. Ms. Reeves has cleverly managed to use her skill to captivate her audience and lure them into deep thought through her various works of art. Although many of her other pieces are fascinating, the piece titled "Red Dog" is exceptional. Unlike her other works, the "Red Dog" was painted with acrylic. As I began to soak in the acrylic painting, many thoughts and emotions evoked in my mind.…

As viewers walk through the Dayton Art Institute, their eyes might be drawn to the nine foot by seven foot oil canvas named “Louise Nevelson”. This piece of art was painted by Alison Van Pelt in the year of 2001. The beautiful painting is a portrait of the artist Louise Nevelson. The portrait was painted in monochromatic shades of blue and horizontal brushstrokes were used so that the painting appears to viewers as an almost holographic image. As a viewer walks past the amazing work of art, feelings of curiosity and suspensefulness might run through their minds.…

Throughout history art has been a major aspect of human civilization. Over time art has evolved and shifted from different eras and civilizations. For my report, I chose to visit the Timken Museum, in Balboa Park, where I saw the View of Volterra by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. The scene in Camille Corot’s the View of Volterra depicts a distant view of the town of Volterra. In the scene we see a lush countryside, with a man on a horse who appears to be talking to someone sitting, in the shade of a tree, besides the trail leading up to the town sitting in the background.…

Though most pieces of art have a primary, philosophical meaning connected to them the first impression of importance comes through our primary visual analysis. Once we view a piece of art we first look at its size, medium, color, condition. Ephraim’s Urevbu piece titled “Sweet Mother” represents a mother's love for her child. This work of art was created in 2007 it is presently located at the Art Village Gallery on South Main Street in Memphis, Tennesee. The photograph of the Bath, Pocono Palace was taken in 1980 at Marshall Creek in Pennsylvania by Lucinda Devlin. This was for her series of Pleasure Ground photos. I will say that this is a photograph taken upside down of the bathtub and that the size is 14 fonts. The reason for this photograph of choice was because it gave me a sense of memory while the other pieces of artwork gave me no satisfaction. Since I was examining this photograph, I was intrigued by its one-point linear perspective, just like in my sketch while I was drawing.…

In the painting, Christ is illuminated by being colored in with very pale colors, but he surrounded by a myriad of colors. Each person depicted in the painting, especially those in the foreground, are each wearing clothes that have different hues, such as the Virgin is wearing blue while the Saint John is wearing red. The colors of each of their clothing are quite intense adding to the energy of the scene. There is also a mix of warm and cool tones throughout the painting, which adds the disorder of the painting. Another important aspect of the painting is the use of color in the middle ground and background.…

The most fascinating thing about art is the difference and diversity between works of art. The drastic uniqueness of arts between periods is something that is interesting to look at because one gets to see how much changes can be made due to cultural influences and time. After visiting the Met and seeing the works of art in person, I have chosen the Statute of Dionysus Leaning On A Female Figure and the Standing Buddha Offering Protection to explore in depth. The Standing Buddha Offering Protection is an Indian sculpture made during the late 5th century. It is only 85.5cm tall and it is constructed out of red sandstone.…

There is use of a few colors, but every color in the painting are important. The throne block is a color of gold which helps show the richness of it. The colors of the clothes show colors of older clothes rather than the ones we have today. This is important to use in the painting because the era of it is not a present-day representation. This essay will discuss how ‘the art world’ describes the relationship between tourism, creativity and culture. The concept of ‘the art world’ is a creative process and came about in 1964, when Arthur Danto and sociologists began to analyse the experience of the ever-changing production and appreciation of art. The art world is made up of a series of interlinked networks that play a role in every culture. Therefore, the art world is a combination of actors and institutions such as artists, museums and art collectors. They give objects meaning, value and a purpose that set them apart from plain ordinary objects, to art work (van Maanen, 2009, p. 7).…

“Salt” was published in Sherman Alexie’s 2009 book, War Dances. The story follows a young intern at a local newspaper who must take over writing obituaries once the lead writer dies. This causes him to visit an elderly woman with dementia who grieves over her late husband and cat. The piece deals with the differences in youth and old age, highlighting the pain and disability often associated with the elderly. After witnessing this suffering firsthand, the protagonist is deeply affected and nearly disturbed by it, saying, “Jesus, I don’t want to die today or tomorrow, but I don’t want to live forever” (Alexie 208).…
