Within the NAGC system there are two programs that a child with disabilities can be placed in after an evaluation, the 504 plan or the individualized education plan (IEP) program (NAGC, 2016). The system also helps discover any hidden talents the child may have and strategizes on the schedule on which it will operate when working with the gifted children. Lewis states his two grandsons “have benefited from the special education training they receive and although it is often challenging, the future is bright” (Lewis, 2014). The one on one sessions in the child’s home environment leads to a greater success in the child’s overall development by placing a focus on developing the child’s talents and perfecting them. The system helps the child develop their talents by adding to the knowledge they already have to make them efficient (Turnbull, Turnbull, & Shogren, 2011).
The services embrace a system known as the gifted and talented system that ensures the curriculum is followed as the child is taken through a comprehensive training. Out of this exposure the child perfects their skills and once they have completed the comprehensive training can make a livelihood out of their talents. (Autism Speaks, 2016). A child with any type of disability should be encouraged to use and develop the talents and skills they have to assist in their growth and development and not be discriminated
