Pope Francis is the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. Pope Francis’s birth name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio and he was born in Flores, Bueno Aires, Argentina on December 17, 1936. His papal name is in honor of St. Francis of Assisi of Italy. Before becoming a pope Bergoglio got his degree in chemistry and a Ph.D. in theology. In 1958, Bergoglio entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus. Bergoglio was also a teacher and he taught literature and psychology at Colegio del Salvatore and Colegio of San José. In 1969, he was ordained as a priest and in 1973 he became Jesuit provincial of Argentina. In 1998 he became archbishop of Argentina. A few short years later he ordained as cardinal in 2001. On March 13, 2013, Bergoglio became the pope he was also the first pope that was non-European.
The encyclical is a letter written by the Pope. This a nonfiction text. This piece of writing is informational but also persuasive. This letter is written to inform the public. The overall point of this piece of writing is to discuss the environment. Pope Francis talks about the changes of the earth due to human behavior. He goes into detail of each aspect of the earth and talks about the changes and the reason people should want to help fix this problem.
