Both “The Veldt” and the CNN article have multitudinous benefits, but they also have a great deal of disadvantages too. In the fictional work “The Veldt,” the family members fail to communicate and function in their traditional roles, losing their manners and sense of self worth (Bradbury). The children lack morals and responsibility and ultimately, the family falls apart. Roles change as both parents begin to lose their authority over the children (Bradbury). If this type of technologically-advanced house became a reality, and was able to function without the help of humans, any family who lived there would likely be dependent on the home. Then if the house lost power the family would be unable to function. They would lack basic skills to keep the house running and would be ultimately helpless, meaning they not know how to cook, clean, tie their shoes or even bathe themselves (Bradbury). As a result, the family would suffer a decline in basic skills and end up having to re-learn those skills in order to be able to once again live in a normal home. While technological advances such as those noted in “The Veldt,” seem too far-fetched, they may cause problems in our lifetime. Growing organs for transplant is becoming a real possibility based on a recent CNN article, but many people are concerned, mainly because people are concerned about of the idea of scientists growing human organs in animals (Imam).
