Officers are portrayed as racist, bias, and untrustworthy because of the media. Social media consists of not only Facebook, twitter, Instagram but it also consist with the news and the News Paper. The top headings of any paper states that “police killed 3 African Americans during traffic stop” for an example, the people of America don’t get the full story. One wasn’t told that the Americans were shot and killed because one reached for a gun in his back pocket. The papers do not get that they are portraying the police as “bad” guys. As a Police Officer the individual takes an Oath to keep the streets of America and the State, and or their City safe. According to Oliver Meier from the American Journal of Criminal Justice police officers now wear body cameras and dash board cameras so the full story is released, also to reduce the extensive crime rates in Greenbrier County. I was able to interview him and ask questions related to the research I have conducted above. While doing the research questions kept coming up as to why. Why does one do this and how does one react? Even the questions about education, why is it so important to have 662 hours of training. Officer Walters had given me a very clear look as to what it looks like inside the Logan Township Police Department and even more on what to expect in the future. Officer Walters had given me an article to read that enhanced my research to the next level on force continuum. Officer Walters had told me about the multiple stages that have to be followed within the continuum of force. Another interesting thing Officer Walters told me was that most officers act out from instinct and muscle memory. In the research it states that they go by protocol and by a list of rules. I proceed to ask Mr. Walters about his opinion on the social media and how it influences how he does a standard traffic stop.
