Dear Mr. Stan Rheingans:

Summer break is great in all, but year-round school will allow students to still get a break every once and a while and they won’t forget as much as they would have over the summer. My name is Adam Kramer; a student at Washington Middle School. I am writing this letter to try and persuade you into thinking why our school district should change our regular school days into year-round school. Year-round school could possibly make students smarter, and they will remember more. Also, instead of students being home alone during the summer, they will be at school in a safer environment. Continue to read this letter to understand why I believe that we should have year-round school.

During the summer break, students will usually forget a little of what they have learned over their school time. The 15 day break will allow the students to remember more and keep their regular schedule. Also, these 15 days can allow the students to get any late work complete or prepare for something in school coming in the next couple of days. Students going to school could enjoy it more, due to the shorter school period instead of going for the continuous 180 days of school.

If students can remember more and enjoy school more, then the students should be able to become more educated. Year-round school would make the school year longer and the students could be taught more. The teachers will also be in a better mood to teach because the break would've gave them some time away from school. And if the teachers were to be in a better mood, then they would be able to teach better. If teachers teach better, then the students will be able to learn

The facts tell us that it’s hurting us more than helping us. Breaking tradition of summer break with year round school can cause students to get bored with work and stressed. Stated by pantagraph.com, “Many students wouldn’t go to year round school and would get tired of it, which would result in many drop outs.” Do you want tired and tuckered…

In conclusion, having the system of year round school is the most beneficial, not only for students but also for teachers and parents. When we see the perspective of how it works and how it can help, it does give us a better understanding. When we see the impact it has, then we can see the true benefits of it. Having students in school for the whole year doesn't only keep them more focused but also helps them to be better prepared for their…

Would year-round school or would normal school be more beneficial for students? Some people believe that year-round school is better and are thinking about changing their school schedule to year-round. The education system should change schools to a full year schedule because students get the same amount of time off, students wouldn’t forget information as easily, and students would have a mind of clarity. If schools switched to year-round school, students wouldn’t forget information as easily.…

Year-round schooling breaks give both the students and teachers to have some time of relaxation because of their long and balanced schedule. “Short breaks are always replenishing and students as well as the teachers can resume their schedules with renewed vigor, a fresher mind and great zeal.” (Year-Round School Advantages and Disadvantages). Regular school breaks stimulates a person to remain focused. Luke Towler claims that the extended time off allows both the teachers and students to not feel drained from school.…

Instead of a ten-week summer vacation, in which information is difficult to retain, we would instead have a four to six-week vacation period, creating frequent and smooth rolling breaks throughout the year. Lessening the need for longer review periods within the beginning of the school year. Allowing for a more regularized, stress reducing break system for not only for student, but for staff as well (Yeager, "Year-Round Education Program Guide."). Stress can often put a damper on our productivity and have detrimental health effects if not…

With all the work to be done and keeping up one's grades, there is so much to worry about. Some students might feel this longer break is a good way for them to get away from all the stress school causes. Students could retain information from year round school, however all that learning makes it harder on the student so the longer break would be more beneficial. Students also have more time to start going into the real world. Students tend to get jobs during the summer rather than school because of time.…

There should not be year-round schools due to the many drawbacks for students, as well as the school itself. The downfalls of year round schools involve time, cost and the development of students. Consequently, there are risks of students not growing as healthy as a child with extended time off. Also, the scheduling for families and out of school activities will be harder to plan and have to be changed because of an extended year. The students and their families will not only be affected by the prolonged school year.…

Another study states “students requiring academic support don't have to wait to go to summer school to get help. Instead, they can attend remedial classes early in the year to catch and fix problems quicker.”(pbs.org,2001). Without the long summer break, kids need less time to catch up and relearn so they can learn more and the entire school year. All in all year-round school improves student learning without burnout.…

In addition, “due to the knowledge restrained rather than lost, scores on ACT testing for those students in school who participate in year-round schooling increases by about 2.34 points in math and 1.61 points in reading (Fye).” This explains how there is a big benefit in education from year round school because of how kids don’t lose what they learned during very long breaks and instead become better educated and get better grades. Studies prove…

As stated in the previous paragraph, there is proof that students lose valuable academic skills during a traditional summer break. This results in an average of four to six weeks at the beginning of a new school year in a traditional schedule being spent reviewing the previous school years material. When in the year round program the short breaks allow for students to retain their academic skills, resulting in less time reviewing and more time spent learning new material. In fact this increase time spent learning new material showed that year round schools had a 2.79 higher math gain and 1.61 higher reading gain over traditional schools. This is critical because first off many students quickly bore while learning old stuff and this may be connected to the 3% higher dropout rate in traditional schedule schools then year round and also less time spent reviewing may play into the higher attendance rates in year round…

Both calendars have their pros and cons when dealing with which ones benefits the students better. Year-round Schooling (2004) maintains that “year-round schools can have more positive effects on students who are deemed at risk for academic problems, such as children from low-income families or other students who might typically be low performers in school (para. 10). Others believe that there has not been enough research done on the subject to prove any of these findings as significant, and there is no credible evidence to support this hypothesis. There are many other people who see the traditional school calendar as something that has worked so far and should not be deviated from. Still, there are a plethora of mixed opinions on whether or not year-round schooling is better than the traditional method.…

Children benefit from year round school because they are not in a hurry to cram everything they need to know for that year in just short nine to ten months. Teachers can slow their speed and actually teach students everything they need to know not just what they need for a test, which seems to be regular in many schools. Students will not forget the education that was taught, for they will not have summer vacation time to forget about school and what they learned from it. Cooper had done experiments on children loosing education while on summer break and his results are stunning, and cooper commented that “most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months”…
